Mamuhay sa Disiplina ng Sarili
📖 "He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls."
— Proverbs 25:28
Panimula
1. Disiplina sa Sariling Katawan
📖 "But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway."
— 1 Corinthians 9:27
2. Disiplina sa Isip at Damdamin
📖 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."
— 2 Timothy 1:7
📖 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
— Philippians 4:8
3. Disiplina sa Pananalita
📖 "He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction."
— Proverbs 13:3
📖 "Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man."
— Colossians 4:6
4. Disiplina sa Pananampalataya at Pananalangin
📖 "But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer."
— 1 Peter 4:7
📖 "Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong."
— 1 Corinthians 16:13
Pagninilay at Panalangin
Reflection Verse:
📖 "Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby."
— Hebrews 12:11
Hebrews 12:11 NIV
ReplyDelete[11] No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
At first, having obliged on everyday prayer and devotion is kind of hard to follow, especially when we are not used to do something like this. But as we read the scriptures, the Lord will surely reveal Himself to you. All we need to do, is to have courage and discipline to obey Him. For prayer is the most powerful weapon we have.

ReplyDeleteFrom Hebrews 12:11
ReplyDeleteSpeaks to the paradoxical nature of suffering and its ultimate redemptive power. It's not something we naturally find joyful in the moment. However, the verse emphasizes that this initial pain is not the end of the story. The key lies in the phrase "afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness."
The "peaceable fruit of righteousness" represents the positive, lasting outcome of enduring the difficult experience. This growth comes from the process of being "exercised"—tested, refined, and ultimately strengthened by the trials.
The reflection here centers on the importance of perspective. The "peaceable fruit" is a promise of future blessing, a reward for perseverance and faithfulness during times of adversity. The verse encourages patience and faith, reminding us that the present pain is temporary, while the future reward is eternal.

Discipline has different aspects that we need to develop, control, and be consistent in our actions. It is one of the most important traits that a person must have. It is our foundation for self-growth and success. Discipline helps to stay focused on goals, overcome challenges, and have consistency
.
I believe that while we're making our self-discipline stronger, it will lead us to success. Live a life that is grounded by discipline and commitment. If we have plans to work in silence, don't tell others what your plan is because they might be a distraction. Remember that not everyone wants to see you succeed in life. Let distractors only see reality, not our dreams and plans in life. Life is like a game of chess; we don't need to speak but to act. Let the success blow at last.
In everything we do, discipline and temperance in action and words are important. Being disciplined takes time and commitment. Not just in our external personality but also in our internal personality. When we're disciplined enough, it's not easy to be distracted and lose hope in times of challenges.

Devotional Week 2
The devotion Mamuhay sa Disiplina ng Sarili emphasizes the importance of self-discipline in various aspects of life, particularly for those on a spiritual journey. It highlights the interconnectedness of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual disciplines. The core message revolves around gaining control over one's thoughts, words, and actions. The analogy of a city without walls illustrates the vulnerability of an undisciplined life, susceptible to temptation and chaos. The devotion doesn't isolate discipline to a single area. It addresses self-discipline in physical health, mental and emotional well-being, speech, and spiritual growth. The ultimate goal of self-discipline is presented as a means to strengthen one's faith and relationship with God. Disciplined living is viewed as a path to spiritual maturity and resilience. The devotion acknowledges the ever-present challenge of temptation and the need for constant vigilance. It encourages active resistance to negative influences. While emphasizing the importance of self-control, the devotion also acknowledges the role of God's grace in overcoming challenges. The reflection verse from Hebrews 12:11 speaks to the eventual benefits of enduring hardship and discipline.
The three questions for self-reflection encourage personal assessment of one's current level of self-discipline and identify areas for improvement. The prayer offers a guide for seeking God's help in cultivating greater self-control.
Overall, this devotion offers a practical and holistic approach to self-discipline, grounding it within a spiritual framework. It emphasizes the importance of consistent effort, perseverance, and reliance on God's grace in the journey toward self-mastery and spiritual growth.

Hebrew 12-11
Hebrews gives us a wonderful list of people who are commended by God for their faith. It is a catalogue of men and women, named and unnamed, that stand as witnesses to lives that honoured the Lord – men like Abraham who looked for a city whose Builder and Maker is God; women like Sarah who considered God was faithful to keep His promise.
They are called "a great cloud of witnesses," and indeed their lives demonstrate a trust in God that stands as a wonderful testimony to the faithfulness of God in their lives, and a great encouragement for us to run the race that lies before us, and press on for the high call of God as we look to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith Who endured the Cross for our sake: "Therefore," we are exhorted, "since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us."
Despite the many trials and tribulations they were called upon to face, these men and women obtained a good testimony through faith. They finished the race that was set before them having set aside the sin which plagues so many Christians – the sin of unbelief. And as we look at their example, we are challenged in our own race through life, to forget the things which are behind, to discard anything and everything that might impede our progress or hinders our witness, as we reach forward to complete God's plans and purposes for our lives.
Self-discipline strengthens our faith and guards us against temptation. Through self-control in mind, body, words, and prayer, we grow closer to God. With His help, we can overcome and live with purpose.

Sometimes, having self-discipline feels so hard. . That’s why I need to learn how to control myself, whether in my actions, thoughts, words, or faith. It’s not easy, but with God’s help, I know it’s possible. I just need patience, prayer, and consistency to become stronger and more guided in life.

Hebrews 12-11
ReplyDeleteIn this passage, the writer of Hebrews is pointing out that merely experiencing something unpleasant does not mean we're being punished by God, or have been abandoned by Him. There are times where God uses struggles and hardships to correct us away from sin. Here, the writer points out that nobody likes to be disciplined. Hardships are just that: difficult times, and a test of our faith. While in the midst of some struggle, our minds are mostly concerned with how unpleasant the situation is.

Living with discipline means committing to self-control, consistency, and a strong moral foundation. It requires making choices that align with our values and long-term goals rather than giving in to fleeting desires or distractions. Discipline shapes our character, strengthens our faith, and leads us to a purposeful life.
ReplyDeleteThe Bible emphasizes the importance of self-discipline in 2 Timothy 1:7 (NIV):
"For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline."
This verse reminds us that discipline is not merely about restriction but about empowerment. Through self-discipline, we develop the strength to overcome challenges, the love to act with kindness, and the wisdom to stay true to our purpose. It helps us grow spiritually, mentally, and emotionally, leading to a life of fulfillment and integrity.
Living with discipline means setting boundaries, staying committed to our principles, and trusting that God's guidance will lead us in the right direction. When we practice self-discipline, we not only honor ourselves but also reflect God's wisdom and grace in our daily lives.

Discipline is an ongoing journey, and while I strive to be mindful of my thoughts, words, and actions, I recognize that there are moments when I fall short. Negative thoughts can sometimes cloud my judgment, words spoken in frustration can hurt others, and impulsive actions may lead to regret. However, being aware of these weaknesses is the first step toward improvement. I must continually practice self-awareness and intentionality in my daily life.
Discipline and self-control are vital in leading a meaningful and fulfilling life. They help shape my character and allow me to grow into a better version of myself. Though challenges arise, I must remember that progress is a continuous process. By seeking guidance, staying committed, and learning from my mistakes, I can develop a stronger sense of discipline that aligns with my values and purpose.

As students and believers, self-discipline is crucial for staying focused and motivated to reach our goals. It aids in making better decisions, enhancing productivity, and building a stronger relationship with God. Discipline allows us to obey His commands, resist temptation, grow in faith, and live according to His purpose. True discipline goes beyond personal willpower and involves relying on God's strength.

Hebrews 12:11 speaks of discipline's initial pain yielding a later harvest of righteousness and peace. Think of athletes' training, students' studies, or overcoming bad habits: the struggle is temporary, the reward lasting. Focus on the goal, celebrate small wins, seek support, and remember the purpose—growth, not punishment.

In the moment, discipline is rarely enjoyable. It can be unpleasant, perplexing, and even demoralizing when God permits us to experience periods of chastening, whether via trials, correction, or pruning. Scripture, however, reminds us that there is always a reason for God's discipline. This Hebrews passage is frank: making corrections is difficult. It is "grievous" at the moment. It can rob us of our comfort, test our pride, or reveal our frailties. However, in God's hands, discipline is preparation rather than punishment. It is the tender correction of a father who recognizes our identity and our potential.

Self-discipline means doing what is right, even when it's hard. It helps me stay close to God and live the way He wants. In the Bible, God tells us to be self-controlled and not follow every feeling or desire we have.
ReplyDeleteEach day, I need to make good choices like spending time with God, being kind, and not giving in to anger or laziness. Sometimes I want to do things that are fun but not helpful, like wasting time or speaking without thinking. Self-discipline helps me stop and ask, “What would God want me to do?” Self-discipline is not about being perfect, but about growing and trying every day with God’s help. With God’s strength, I can choose what is right and live in a way that honors Him.

Repleksyon:

Discipline may feel painful or unpleasant in the moment, but it helps us grow. Over time, it leads to righteousness and peace for those who learn from it. As a student, this reminds me that challenges and corrections are meant to help me become a better person.
Self-discipline is all about commitment, determination, and the ability to keep going even when things get tough. It involves learning how to set personal limits, manage your time wisely, and focus on what truly matters. It’s also about being in control of your actions, emotions, and decisions. Practicing self-discipline means saying no to distractions, staying dedicated to your responsibilities, and pushing forward even when motivation fades.
ReplyDeleteWhen I take a moment to think about my own journey, I realize that developing self-discipline is not something that happens overnight it’s a continuous effort. There are moments when I find it difficult to concentrate, when temptations are hard to ignore, and when challenges seem overwhelming. Still, I know that with persistence and the right mindset, I can grow stronger in this area and become more capable of reaching my personal and academic goals.

The Idea of self-discipline as training is powerful. It reminds us that we’re not just passive observers in our own lives. We have the power to choose how we use our time, what we say, and even how we think. It’s about actively shaping ourselves to be more like God wants us to be.
ReplyDeleteIt's not always easy to make the right choice. We all face temptations and struggles. But when we decide to train ourselves to be mindful of our choices and to resist those things that pull us away from God, we’re taking an active role in becoming the best version of ourselves. Self-discipline isn’t all about being perfect, but about making intentional choices to grow closer to God.
