There is a mystery about the anointing that many celebrate… but few truly understand.
The anointing is not noise. It is not charisma. It is not even gifting.
The anointing is the manifested presence of God resting upon a yielded vessel. And here is the tragedy…
Many do not lose the anointing publicly.
They lose it privately, silently, gradually.
1. The Sin of Inner SubstitutionRevelation 2:4 (KJV): "Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love."
There is a quiet exchange that happens in the heart…
Where God is replaced, but not removed.
You still pray… but not with hunger.
You still worship… but not with surrender.
You still minister… but without trembling.
The revelation is this:The anointing does not leave when you sin once—
it begins to fade when God is no longer your first love.
Jesus spoke in Revelation about leaving first love—not abandoning faith, but losing fire.
The anointing feeds on affection, not activity.
2. The Sin of Secret PrideProverbs 16:18 (KJV): "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."
Pride is dangerous not because it is loud…
but because it is invisible to the carrier.
It whispers:
“You are anointed because you are special.”
But the truth is:
You are anointed because you are empty enough.
Pride contaminates the vessel. And God does not anoint self-sufficiency.
Fresh revelation:
The moment you begin to admire yourself, you reduce the space available for God to express Himself through you.
3. The Sin of Unchecked ThoughtsMatthew 5:28 (KJV): "But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."
Many think sin is only what is done outwardly…
But the Spirit showed me this:
The anointing is sensitive to imagination.Your thought life is an altar.
And whatever consistently burns there… invites a presence.
If bitterness lives there…
If lust lives there…
If offense lives there…
You may still preach… but heaven will be silent behind your voice. As Apostle Joshua Selman often emphasizes:
“Spiritual things are governed by laws.”
And one of those laws is purity of the inner life.
4. The Sin of Dishonor1 Samuel 2:30 (KJV): "Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed."
Dishonor is subtle.
It doesn’t always shout…
Sometimes it is just a quiet lack of reverence.
Dishonor for:
God’s presence
Spiritual authority
Sacred moments
Fresh insight:The anointing flows strongest in atmospheres of honor.
When honor leaves, grace withdraws.
Even Kathryn Kuhlman would often say with tears:
“I fear losing the presence more than anything.”
She understood something rare:Familiarity is the enemy of glory.
5. The Sin of Emotional IndependenceIsaiah 55:8-9 (KJV): "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts."
This one is deep…
It is the decision to feel without consulting God.
You choose offense instead of surrender
You choose anxiety instead of trust
You choose reaction instead of stillness
And slowly… the Spirit is grieved.Because the anointing thrives where there is total dependency.
Fresh revelation:
The Holy Spirit does not rest on those who manage life without Him.
6. The Sin of Hidden Disobedience1 Samuel 15:22 (KJV): "And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams."
Partial obedience is still disobedience.
God may speak something small…
“Forgive.”
“Let go.”
“Be still.”
But you delay.
And what you don’t realize is:Delayed obedience creates spiritual resistance.
The anointing flows like oil…
But disobedience thickens the vessel.
Closing RevelationJohn 15:4-5 (KJV): "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."
The anointing is not sustained by power…
It is sustained by purity, surrender, and intimacy.
You don’t “carry” the anointing by effort—You host it by alignment.
A Gentle Call to ReturnRight now… quietly… inwardly…
Ask yourself:
“Lord, is there anything in me that competes with You?”Because the greatest secret is this:
God does not anoint perfection—He anoints yieldedness.
Final WhisperJames 4:6 (KJV): "But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."
If you protect His presence…
He will protect your anointing.
If you honor His voice…
He will amplify yours.
And if you refuse the secret sins…

you will carry a glory that cannot be explained—only encountered.
