How to Grow in My Relationship with God? | CV1 | Module 4 | Lesson 1

How to Grow in My Relationship with God?

I. Desiring God and Seeking Him Diligently

  1. Developing a Genuine Hunger for God

    Psalm 42:1-2
“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?”

    • Insight: Spiritual growth begins with a genuine longing to know God. Just as thirst leads us to water, spiritual thirst should lead us to seek God daily.
  2. Pursuing God Diligently

    Hebrews 11:6
“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

    • Insight: God promises to reward those who seek Him earnestly. Consistent, intentional effort to draw near to God brings spiritual growth.

II. Building a Strong Prayer Life

  1. Praying with Faith and Persistence

    Mark 11:24
“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

    • Insight: Faith-filled prayer is essential for a relationship with God. Believing in God’s willingness to hear us encourages a consistent and trusting prayer life.
  2. Praying Without Ceasing

    1 Thessalonians 5:17
    “Pray without ceasing.”

    • Insight: Prayer is not limited to set times; we can stay in communion with God throughout the day. This constant connection strengthens our relationship with Him.
  3. Seeking God’s Will in Prayer

    1 John 5:14
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.”

    • Insight: As we grow spiritually, aligning our prayers with God’s will becomes central. Seeking His desires builds a relationship grounded in trust.

III. Studying and Meditating on God’s Word

  1. Finding Guidance and Wisdom in Scripture

    Psalm 119:105
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

    • Insight: God's Word directs our paths, giving us wisdom to live in alignment with His will. Studying the Bible helps us know God’s character and His instructions for life.
  2. Meditating on Scripture Daily

    Joshua 1:8
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

    • Insight: Daily meditation on God’s Word deepens our understanding and helps us grow in our relationship with Him. It keeps our minds focused on His truths.
  3. Being Transformed by the Word

    Romans 12:2
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

    • Insight: Renewing our minds through God’s Word brings transformation, allowing us to live in ways that please Him and deepen our connection.

IV. Living in Obedience to God’s Commands

  1. Obeying as an Expression of Love

    John 14:15
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

    • Insight: Obedience to God’s Word is a demonstration of our love for Him. As we obey, we build a relationship of trust and honor with God.
  2. Being Doers of the Word

    James 1:22
“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

    • Insight: Hearing God’s Word alone is not enough. Applying it to our lives helps us grow in integrity and strengthens our relationship with Him.

V. Fellowshipping with Other Believers

  1. Gathering Together Regularly

    Hebrews 10:24-25
“And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

    • Insight: Fellowship provides encouragement, accountability, and an environment for spiritual growth as we learn and worship together.
  2. Building Up One Another in Love

    Ephesians 4:15-16
“But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.”

    • Insight: Relationships within the body of Christ help us mature and grow spiritually, as we support and love one another.

VI. Practicing Humility and Dependence on God

  1. Relying on God’s Strength

    Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

    • Insight: Growing spiritually means acknowledging our need for God’s strength. Dependence on Him leads us into a deeper relationship.
  2. Humbling Ourselves Before God

    James 4:10
“Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”

    • Insight: Humility invites God to work in us, allowing us to grow closer as we recognize our need for His grace.

VII. Trusting God through Trials and Challenges

  1. Allowing Trials to Strengthen Faith

    James 1:2-4
“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”

    • Insight: Trials provide an opportunity to grow deeper in faith and reliance on God, teaching us to trust Him even in difficulty.
  2. Casting All Burdens on God

    1 Peter 5:7
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

    • Insight: Giving our worries to God builds our relationship with Him by affirming our trust in His care for us.

Conclusion

Growing in your relationship with God is a journey that involves seeking Him sincerely, engaging deeply in prayer, studying His Word, living in obedience, fellowshipping with believers, practicing humility, and trusting Him through all of life’s challenges. By faithfully walking in these practices, you deepen your connection with God and fulfill your purpose as His child.
