Unit 1-Lesson 1: Why the Bible is Important for Students

Lesson 1: Why the Bible is Important for Students

Lesson Objectives:

✔ Understand why the Bible is unique compared to other books.
✔ Learn how God speaks to us through His Word.
✔ Apply Psalm 119:11 to daily life as a student.

Introduction: The Bible – The Most Important Book

📖 The Bible is the Word of God. Unlike any other book, it is alive, powerful, and eternal. It has changed lives for generations and continues to guide people in truth.

🔹 Key Verse: “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”Psalm 119:11

💡 Question: How often do you read the Bible? How do you think it can help you as a student?

I. What Makes the Bible Different from Other Books?

Many books provide knowledge, but the Bible gives divine wisdom and spiritual guidance. Here’s why the Bible is unique:

1. The Bible is Inspired by God

📖 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness."2 Timothy 3:16

  • Unlike textbooks or storybooks, the Bible is God-breathed.
  • It teaches what is right, warns against what is wrong, and corrects us when we stray.

2. The Bible is Eternal and Unchanging

📖 "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever."Isaiah 40:8

  • Many books become outdated, but God’s Word never changes.
  • The same Bible that guided past generations still guides us today.

3. The Bible Gives Spiritual Life

📖 "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."Matthew 4:4

  • Just as food gives us physical strength, the Bible gives us spiritual strength.
  • Reading the Bible nourishes our mind, heart, and soul.

4. The Bible is Powerful and Transforming

📖 "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword."Hebrews 4:12

  • The Bible convicts, corrects, and changes hearts.
  • It helps us overcome temptation, fear, and sin.

🔹 Reflection Question: Have you ever read something in the Bible that changed the way you think or act?

II. How Does God Speak to Us Through His Word?

God communicates with us through the Bible, just like a teacher guiding a student. Here’s how:

1. Through Bible Verses That Teach Us

📖 "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple."Psalm 119:130

  • When we read the Bible, God teaches us how to live wisely.

2. Through Promises That Give Us Strength

📖 "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee."Isaiah 41:10

  • When we are afraid, God’s Word gives us peace and confidence.

3. Through Stories of Real People Like Us

📖 "For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope."Romans 15:4

  • The Bible is filled with stories of faith, courage, and victory.
  • Example: David vs. Goliath – Trusting in God gives victory over challenges.

🔹 Reflection Question: Have you ever faced a situation where a Bible verse helped you make the right decision?

III. Activity: Memorize Psalm 119:11

📖 “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”Psalm 119:11

Steps to Memorize:

Read it aloud 3 times.
Write it down in your notebook.
Explain it in your own words.
Share how this verse can help you as a student.

Writing Task:
How does this verse apply to your daily life?
Example Answer: “I will keep God’s Word in my heart so that I won’t be tempted to cheat in school or lie to my parents. The Bible reminds me to do what is right.”

Conclusion: Why Should Students Read the Bible?

✔ The Bible is God’s guide for life.
✔ It helps us make wise choices in school and at home.
✔ It protects us from sin and gives us strength in challenges.

💡 Challenge: Read one Bible verse every morning before going to school this week!

📌 Next Lesson: How to Read and Apply the Bible Daily

🔹 Teacher’s Guide:

  • Encourage students to bring their Bibles to class.
  • Have a Bible-sharing session where students talk about their favorite verse.
  • Use real-life examples to show how the Bible helps in daily life.
