Unit 2 – Lesson 3: Honesty and Integrity

Unit 2 – Lesson 3: Honesty and Integrity

Lesson Objectives:

✔ Understand the biblical meaning of honesty and integrity.
✔ Learn why honesty and integrity are essential for a Christian life.
✔ Apply honesty and integrity in daily life, including school and family.

I. Introduction: What is Honesty and Integrity?

📖 "Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight."Proverbs 12:22

🔹 Honesty means telling the truth and not deceiving others.
🔹 Integrity means living according to God’s truth, even when no one is watching.
🔹 Both are important because God sees everything we do, even in secret.

💡 Reflection Question:
Have you ever been in a situation where it was hard to tell the truth? What did you do?

II. Biblical Examples of Honesty and Integrity

1. Joseph – A Man of Integrity

📖 "The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man."Genesis 39:2

  • Joseph was tempted by Potiphar’s wife, but he refused to sin (Genesis 39:7-9).
  • Even when he was falsely accused and sent to prison, he remained faithful to God.
  • God honored his integrity and later made him a great leader in Egypt.

🔹 Lesson: God blesses those who choose integrity over sin.

2. Daniel – Choosing Honesty Over Compromise

📖 "But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself."Daniel 1:8

  • Daniel refused to eat the king’s food because it was against God’s law.
  • He could have lied or made excuses, but he stood firm in his faith.
  • Because of his honesty and integrity, God gave him wisdom and favor.

🔹 Lesson: When we stand for what is right, God will honor and protect us.

3. Ananias and Sapphira – The Danger of Dishonesty

📖 "Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God."Acts 5:4

  • Ananias and Sapphira lied about their offering, pretending to be generous.
  • They were punished immediately because they tried to deceive God.
  • This teaches us that dishonesty has serious consequences.

🔹 Lesson: God sees our hearts and judges dishonesty.

III. Why Honesty and Integrity Matter

📖 "Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men."2 Corinthians 8:21

💡 Why should we be honest and live with integrity?
✔ It pleases God. (Proverbs 12:22)
✔ It builds trust with others. (Luke 16:10)
✔ It protects us from trouble. (Proverbs 10:9)
✔ It strengthens our testimony as Christians. (Philippians 2:15)

IV. Practical Ways to Live Honestly and with Integrity

1. Be Truthful in Your Words

  • Never lie, even if it’s a small lie.
  • Avoid exaggeration or twisting the truth.
  • Speak truthfully with kindness and love.

📖 "Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour."Ephesians 4:25

2. Be Honest in School and at Home

  • Do not cheat on tests or assignments.
  • Return things that are not yours.
  • Keep your promises and commitments.

📖 "He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much."Luke 16:10

3. Have Integrity in Secret

  • Do the right thing even when no one is watching.
  • Avoid stealing, gossiping, or being dishonest when you think no one will know.
  • Always remember that God sees everything.

📖 "The eyes of the Lord are in every place, beholding the evil and the good."Proverbs 15:3

V. Activity: "The Honesty Test"

Self-Reflection:
Think about the past week and answer these questions:

  1. Was there a time when I was tempted to lie? What did I do?
  2. Did I act with integrity when no one was watching?
  3. How can I improve in honesty and integrity?

Group Discussion:

  • Share a situation where being honest was difficult but the right choice.
  • Discuss ways to help each other live with integrity at school and home.

Challenge for the Week:

  • Choose one area where you struggle with honesty or integrity.
  • Pray and ask God for strength to change and grow in that area.

📖 Memory Verse:
"Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight."Proverbs 12:22

📌 Next Lesson: Responsibility and Stewardship

🔹 Teacher’s Guide:
✔ Encourage students to share real-life challenges in honesty and integrity.
✔ Help them understand that integrity is not just about big things but also small daily choices.
✔ Remind them that God rewards those who walk in truth.
