Unit 2 – Lesson 4: Respect for Teachers and Classmates

I. Introduction: What is Respect?
📖 "Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king." – 1 Peter 2:17
🔹 Respect means showing honor, kindness, and consideration for others.
🔹 God commands us to respect authority and love one another.
🔹 Respect starts in the heart and is expressed in words and actions.

How do you feel when someone disrespects you? Why is respect important in relationships?
II. Biblical Basis of Respect
✅ 1. Respect for Teachers (Authority Figures)
📖 "Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls." – Hebrews 13:17
- Teachers are given authority to guide and educate students.
- Obedience and listening to teachers show respect for their role.
- Even when we disagree, we must respond with politeness and humility.

✅ 2. Respect for Classmates (Fellow Students)
📖 "Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another." – Romans 12:10

- Treat others as you want to be treated (Matthew 7:12).
- Avoid bullying, gossiping, or speaking hurtful words.

✘ It leads to division and misunderstanding.
IV. Practical Ways to Show Respect
✅ 1. Respecting Teachers
- Listen when they are speaking.
- Follow their instructions.
- Say "Thank you" and "Please".
- Do not talk back or argue disrespectfully.

(Teachers act as second parents in school.)
✅ 2. Respecting Classmates
- Be kind and patient with others.
- Share and take turns in group activities.
- Encourage, don’t bully or insult.

✅ 3. Respecting School Property and Rules
- Take care of school materials and classrooms.
- Keep the school clean and orderly.

V. Activity: "Respect in Action"
✔ Scenario Discussion:
Divide the class into groups. Give each group a situation and let them discuss how to respond with respect.
- Your teacher corrects your mistake. How do you respond?
- A classmate accidentally steps on your foot. What do you say?
- Someone is teasing or gossiping about you. How do you react?
✔ Role-Playing:
- Act out different respectful responses to real-life school situations.
- Encourage students to demonstrate good manners in class.
