Windows 11 Update

If your Windows 11 update did not complete and now your laptop hangs after reboot, try these troubleshooting steps:

1. Boot into Safe Mode

Since your system is not booting properly, you can try booting into Safe Mode to fix the issue:

  1. Force shutdown your laptop (press and hold the power button for 10 seconds).
  2. Turn it back on and force shutdown three times (this should trigger the Windows Recovery Environment).
  3. On the Advanced Startup menu, go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
  4. Press 4 or F4 to enter Safe Mode.
  5. Once in Safe Mode, try uninstalling the last Windows update:
    • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Update History > Uninstall Updates.
    • Remove the most recent update and restart your laptop.

2. Perform Startup Repair

If Safe Mode doesn’t work:

  1. Boot into the Advanced Startup menu (follow steps 1-3 above).
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.
  3. Let Windows attempt to fix startup issues.

3. Run System Restore

If Startup Repair doesn’t help, try rolling back to a previous system restore point:

  1. Boot into the Advanced Startup menu.
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  3. Choose a restore point before the update and restore your system.

4. Use Command Prompt to Fix Corrupt Files

If your laptop still hangs, use the command prompt to fix corrupted system files:

  1. Boot into the Advanced Startup menu.
  2. Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Command Prompt.
  3. Type the following commands and press Enter after each:
    • sfc /scannow (scans and repairs corrupted system files)
    • chkdsk C: /f /r (checks and fixes disk errors)
    • DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth (repairs Windows image)

5. Reset Your PC (Keep or Remove Files)

If none of the above works:

  1. Boot into the Advanced Startup menu.
  2. Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  3. Choose Keep my files (recommended) or Remove everything (if you want a fresh install).

6. Reinstall Windows 11 (Last Resort)

If all else fails, you may need to create a bootable USB drive with Windows 11 and reinstall it:

  1. Use another PC to download the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.
  2. Create a bootable USB drive.
  3. Insert the USB into your laptop and boot from it (press F12, F2, or Del during startup).
  4. Follow the prompts to reinstall Windows.
