The Healing Presence Ministry

The Healing Presence Ministry

An Experiential Approach to the Ministry of Healing Prayer

“I am the Lord who heals you.” — Exodus 15:26

Overview

The Healing Presence ministry is a gentle, prayer-centered approach to inner healing that creates sacred space for individuals to encounter the restoring love of God. This ministry recognizes that many struggles in life have roots in emotional wounds, painful memories, and distorted beliefs formed in moments of hurt. Rather than offering quick fixes or techniques, Healing Presence emphasizes compassionate listening, unhurried prayer, and dependence on the Holy Spirit’s guidance. The focus is not on what prayer ministers do, but on what Christ does when people are welcomed into His healing presence.

Biblical and Theological Foundations

Healing Presence flows from the biblical revelation of God as healer and

restorer. Throughout Scripture, God reveals Himself as attentive to human suffering

and committed to wholeness. Jesus’ earthly ministry consistently demonstrated this

reality—He listened, showed compassion, and ministered to both visible and hidden

wounds. Healing prayer in this model is grounded in the belief that transformation

comes through relational encounter with God rather than through human striving.

As individuals meet Christ in their places of pain, truth replaces distortion, and

peace replaces fear.

Core Ministry Posture

Prayer ministers in the Healing Presence model cultivate a posture of

humility, non-anxious presence, and deep listening. They seek to be attentive to

both the Holy Spirit and the person receiving prayer. There is no pressure to

produce emotional experiences or visible outcomes. Instead, ministers honor each

person’s pace and capacity, trusting that God works gently and faithfully over time.

Safety, confidentiality, and emotional respect are essential commitments in every

prayer session.

Understanding the Trauma Cycle

Healing Presence recognizes that unresolved wounds often set in motion a

repeating cycle that affects thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and life experiences. A

painful wound can give rise to lies or distorted beliefs about oneself, others, or God.

These beliefs then fuel emotional upheaval such as fear, shame, anger, or

hopelessness. In response, individuals may develop dysfunctional coping behaviors

that create new difficult life situations, reinforcing the original wound.

Healing prayer gently interrupts this cycle by inviting Jesus into the original

place of pain. As Christ’s truth replaces distortion, emotional peace begins to return.

Individuals experience comfort, freedom, and renewed capacity to live from the

Spirit rather than from fear or shame. Dr. Terry Wardle pictures it graphically as:

Experiential Training Approach

Training in the Healing Presence ministry is experiential rather than purely

academic. Participants learn through guided prayer experiences, supervised

practice, reflective debriefing, and theological integration. This embodied learning

process develops spiritual discernment, compassion, and sensitivity to the Holy

Spirit’s leading. Trainees are encouraged to grow not only in skill, but in their own

personal journey of healing and deeper intimacy with God.

Safeguards and Ethical Commitments

Healing Presence prayer ministers serve as spiritual companions, not

therapists or counselors. The ministry maintains clear ethical boundaries and

recognizes the importance of professional mental health care when needed. Prayer

sessions are conducted with confidentiality, respect, and awareness of personal

limits. When issues arise that require clinical support, individuals are encouraged to

seek help from qualified professionals.

Fruit of the Ministry

As individuals encounter Christ in their wounded places, many experience

deep inner shifts. Wounds begin to heal, lies give way to truth, and emotional

burdens lighten. People often describe increased peace, freedom from shame,

restored hope, and a greater capacity to live from their identity in Christ. Over time,

these changes support healthier relationships, wiser choices, and a life increasingly

shaped by the Spirit rather than by past pain.

Conclusion

The Healing Presence ministry offers a sacred invitation into deeper

wholeness. Through listening prayer, spiritual discernment, and trust in the gentle

work of the Holy Spirit, individuals are welcomed into transformative encounters

with Jesus. In His presence, wounds are met with compassion, truth brings freedom,

and lives are restored toward the fullness God intends for body, soul, and spirit.
