Unit 2 – Lesson 5: Diligence and Hard Work

Lesson Objectives:

✔ Understand the biblical principle of diligence and hard work.
✔ Learn why God values hard work and perseverance.
✔ Apply diligence in studies and daily responsibilities.

I. Introduction: What is Diligence?

📖 "Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men."Proverbs 22:29

🔹 Diligence means working hard with perseverance, responsibility, and excellence.
🔹 God wants us to be faithful and hardworking in everything we do.
🔹 Hard work brings success, wisdom, and God’s blessings.

💡 Reflection Question:
Have you ever felt lazy or unmotivated? How did it affect your tasks and responsibilities?

II. Biblical Basis of Diligence

1. God Commands Us to Work Hard

📖 "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might."Ecclesiastes 9:10

  • God created work as a way for us to grow and contribute to society.
  • Hard work develops character, discipline, and skills.
  • Laziness leads to poverty and failure (Proverbs 10:4).

🔹 Lesson: Hard work is a way to honor God and prepare for the future.

2. Jesus as Our Example of Diligence

📖 "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day."John 9:4

  • Jesus worked tirelessly in His ministry, healing, teaching, and serving.
  • He never wasted time and was focused on doing God’s will.
  • Even as a child, Jesus was diligent in learning the Scriptures (Luke 2:46-47).

🔹 Lesson: If Jesus was diligent, we should follow His example in our studies and duties.

3. The Rewards of Hard Work

📖 "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men."Colossians 3:23

  • Hard work brings success and blessings.
  • God honors those who are faithful in their responsibilities.
  • Diligence helps us achieve goals and fulfill our purpose.

🔹 Lesson: When we work hard for God, we receive both earthly and eternal rewards.

III. Why Diligence and Hard Work Are Important

📖 "The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute."Proverbs 12:24

💡 What happens when we work hard?
✔ We develop good habits and skills.
✔ We earn trust and responsibility.
✔ We experience progress and success.

💡 What happens when we are lazy?
✘ We fall behind in school and responsibilities.
✘ We miss opportunities for growth.
✘ We dishonor God with wasted time.

IV. Practical Ways to Apply Diligence in Daily Life

1. Diligence in Studies

  • Complete assignments on time.
  • Stay focused and avoid distractions.
  • Always give your best effort in learning.

📖 "A wise man will hear, and will increase learning."Proverbs 1:5

2. Diligence in Responsibilities

  • Take schoolwork, chores, and duties seriously.
  • Be consistent in your efforts.
  • Work as if God is watching, because He is!

📖 "Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."Revelation 2:10

3. Overcoming Laziness

  • Set daily goals and create a study schedule.
  • Avoid procrastination—do tasks immediately.
  • Pray for strength and discipline to stay motivated.

📖 "Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread."Proverbs 20:13
