Lesson 19 Comforting One Another with the Hope of His Coming

 Lesson 19

Comforting One Another with the Hope of His Coming

Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:16–18
"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

Lesson Objective:

To encourage believers to use the promise of Christ’s return as a source of comfort, unity, and endurance in the midst of trials.

Key Points:

  1. The Certainty of His Return

    • The Lord Himself will come—not an angel, not a substitute—Jesus personally will descend.

    • This is not wishful thinking; it is a guaranteed promise from the One who cannot lie (John 14:3).

  2. The Order of the Resurrection and Rapture

    • The dead in Christ rise first — no believer is forgotten.

    • Those alive will be transformed instantly and caught up to meet Him in the clouds (1 Corinthians 15:51–52).

  3. The Eternal Fellowship with the Lord

    • “So shall we ever be with the Lord” — the greatest reward is being with Him forever (Revelation 21:3–4).

  4. Comfort and Encourage One Another

    • These words are meant to uplift, strengthen, and renew our hope, especially during hardships (Hebrews 10:23–25).

    • Encouragement fuels perseverance.

Life Applications:

  • When you see others weary in faith, remind them of the hope of His coming.

  • Let the promise of the Rapture stir you to live holy and prepared.

  • Speak words of hope daily, not words of fear or despair.

Reflection Questions:

  1. How does the promise of His return affect your daily attitude toward trials?

  2. In what ways can you actively encourage other believers with this hope?

  3. What adjustments do you need to make in your life to be ready for His appearing?

Prayer Focus:

Lord, help us to live each day with the joyful expectation of Your coming. Give us grace to comfort others with the hope You have given, and keep our hearts steadfast until we see You face to face. Amen.
