The cross (Galatians 3:13-14, Col 2:14-15)
Galatians 3:13-14
13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.”
14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
Col 2:14-15
14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
1. Original Mankind
1) God finished the work of creation in 6 days.
2) The world God created was a really good world.
Genesis 1:31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
3) God created man in God’s image and gave him blessings and missions
Genesis 1:27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
4) Man, as a creature, has been given the authority to rule the beautiful world that God has created.
Genesis 1:28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
2. Man had sinned and was separated from God.
1) The first man, Adam, ate the fruit of the tree of knowledge and left God.
Genesis 3:6 When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
2) As a result of sin, a curse came upon this earth. Poverty, disease, calamity, death, judgment, and eternal punishment followed.
3) People created idols and religions, but it could not set them free from sin and death.
4) There is no true peace and joy in the heart of man who has not met God.
5) People who have not met God are children of the devil and live the rest of their lives as slaves to the devil.
John 8:44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
6) Man is judged by God after his death.
Heb.9:27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,
7) After death, he is punished by eternal hell.
Revelation 20:14-15 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

: Next, they crucified Jesus (Matthew 27:32-35, Mark 15:21-25, Lk 23:26-33, John 19:17-18).
a. The Bible does not explain the detail of the process.
b. In general, a crucified person was dying from hunger, exhaustion, or the chill of being naked.
c. On the cross, even breathing was hard. If he wanted to breathe for a short moment, he had to strain his nailed leg, but then would feel great pain and lose all strength in his body.
(3) Jesus was being ridiculed (casting lots for clothes, ridicule of robbers):
When the Son of God was hanging on the cross, the soldiers cast lots for his clothes, and the women watched from afar.

34: And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”)
a. The Cry of the Forsaken
•Some people got it wrong and they thought Jesus was calling Elijah.
•This was the 'cry of the forsaken'.
•His death was more than just the fulfillment of messianic prophecies, it was a genuine cry from the depths of humanity.
b. The cry of pain
•Jesus himself was astounded by how deep the pain of the cross was.
•In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus began to feel the suffering of the coming cross.
He prayed in deep agony until his sweat turned to blood.
- He asked his disciples to pray, but even they didn’t.
-He cried out praying, "Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me!"
-but in the end the Lord prayed, thoroughly submitting to the will of his father.

Hebrews 2:14-15 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
4)Jesus’ death on thee cross solved the problem of human death and opened the way to eternal life.
John 11:25-26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
5) We receive the blessing of peace and healing through the cross of Christ.
Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

John 16:23-24 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
8) Through the cross of Christ, we are protected by the angels.
Acts 12:11 Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were hoping would happen.”
